RIVER was developed based on STREAM's success. During the design process, Black Rhodium engineers asked themselves what design techniques could allow people to get much greater listening pleasure from their music without losing the positive qualities they enjoyed from STREAM.

For Black Rhodium, the RIVER had to be different because it delivered an obvious immediate improvement in sound quality, but not so different that it failed to win over STREAM owners.

One of the biggest problems that can arise in the design of audio equipment is the influence of external high frequency, which comes from the growing amount of high frequency digital signals used in modern computing and personal entertainment.
